Talking to them uses credits like any mentor, and the free plan’s credits cover it. They don’t count toward your mentor limit, and they improve with app updates.
Why generic AI gives you generic answers
A generic AI is trained on the whole internet, so it answers with the average of it. A mentor answers with the precise method you chose. Every mentor runs under Framework Lock. Before it answers, it asks itself one question:
Would a generic AI give this same advice?
If the answer is yes, the reply is reframed through the author’s model. A 1912 author can discuss a 2026 sales funnel, but only through their own model of cause and effect. That is the difference between a model that knows about a method and a mentor that thinks in it.

Privacy
We don’t log your messages or your material. The server records usage metadata only: tokens, credits and timing. It keeps those rows for 90 days.
Your files stay on your computer. To write an answer, the mentor sends the passages it retrieved and your question to the model. It never sends your library, your other mentors or your history.
Enhanced privacy mode (Mentor Guides and Mentor Workforce). Your own local model writes the answers, on your computer or on a machine on your own network. Chat never goes to us. Creating a mentor still uses our server, because that is where the generation method lives.
Nothing you give it trains a model.
Your account, your mentors. Each email address sees only its own mentors, conversations, Board sessions and recordings, even on a shared computer. This is separation, not encryption. Anyone who can log into your computer account can open the files directly, so use a login password and full-disk encryption.

FAQ
Will relying on AI make me think less?
Not this way. A generic AI hands you a finished answer you can’t defend. A mentor holds you to a method you chose. It asks for your specifics, it won’t give you the generic reply, and it tells you when you’re cutting a corner the method doesn’t allow. You’re not outsourcing judgement. You’re applying a framework at the speed of a question instead of a ten-hour course.
What can I give it?
PDF, Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), EPUB, HTML, Markdown, plain text and subtitle files (SRT, VTT). Audio and video (MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV) are transcribed first, so video-only courses work. Drop in a whole folder. It lists anything it can’t read instead of skipping it silently, before anything is charged.
Is a mentor the expert?
No, and it doesn’t pretend to be. A mentor is built from an expert’s method: the course you own, with its videos, audio and documents. It is their method, applied to your case, in seconds, as often as you ask.
What if the material doesn’t cover my question?
The mentor still answers, in its own voice, by applying the author’s principles to your question. It doesn’t reply “that’s not in my material” and stop.
What does a question cost?
Credits. Your balance is always in the account menu, and Plan & credits shows a usage history with what each turn cost. Every action costs the same number of credits on every plan. A higher plan makes credits cheaper to buy.
What happens if I run out mid-conversation?
Nothing is lost. Your message is kept and the app points you to Plan & credits.
Do I have to subscribe?
No. The free plan has no end date. It includes 600 bonus welcome credits, then 150 free credits every month. Subscribe when you want more than two mentors of your own, a board, privacy mode or agents.
Is this legal?
Yes, for a course you bought and for your own private use. It’s much like taking notes from a course you own. You can’t use Mentor Factory to share or republish someone else’s work.
What if the course isn’t very good?
Then don’t build a mentor from it. Mentor Factory applies a method; it doesn’t repair one.
Where does my data live?
Your documents, mentors and conversations live on your computer. Your account and usage metadata live on our server in the EU. The privacy policy lists everything.
Is it GDPR compliant?
Yes, and here is why you can check it. We’re a European company, so the GDPR is our own law. Usage metadata sits on a server in the EU. We keep no copy of your messages, answers or material. Every sub-processor is published by category and works under a written data-processing agreement. The app exports your mentors, profiles and conversations to your own files. You delete your account from inside the app, not by writing to support. The privacy policy is written so you can check it against the app.
Does it work on Windows?
Not yet. It’s available for macOS now and Windows is in development: the same app, the same mentors and the same account.
Can my other tools use my mentors?
On Mentor Workforce, yes: AI agents such as Hermes Agent or OpenClaw can call them through MCP, and you can use them from a command line. This is off by default. Nothing listens until you switch it on.
How do referrals work?
Invite someone. Once they pay, you get 3% more monthly credits for as long as they stay subscribed. Referrals count up to 3 on Free, 10 on Mentor Guides and 20 on Mentor Workforce.
Can I cancel?
Yes, at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your mentors, conversations and purchased credits stay, and you move to Free forever. If you have more mentors than Free forever allows, all of them stay and keep answering. You just can’t create a new one until you’re under the limit. Board of Advisors, Enhanced privacy mode and agents switch off.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, from inside the app, confirmed by a code we email you. You choose whether it happens now or at the end of your billing period. There is no refund for the rest of the period, and unused credits, including top-ups, are lost. If you’re still within 14 days of a first subscription payment or a top-up, withdraw first. The details are on the pricing page.
Refunds?
Within 14 days of your first subscription payment, or of a top-up, yes: you get back what you paid, minus the share of the paid credits you’ve already used. Bonus credits are never refunded. After 14 days there’s no refund; cancelling stops the next renewal. See the refund policy.
